Big Match Review - Swansea 1 Newcastle 1

Championship
Swansea City 1-1 Newcastle United
Saturday February 9, Liberty Stadium, (Att: 15,188)

Andy Carroll's goal three minutes from time earned Newcastle a point which saw them return back to the top of the Championship.

The Swans went the closest early on - Andrea Orlandi curling a 25-yard free-kick just wide of Steve Harper's upright.

Chris Hughton's side responded and, after Kevin Nolan sent a header wide, Carroll saw his headed effort from a corner stopped by Dorus De Vries in the home goal.

It was City who took the lead ten minutes into the second half though.

Nathan Dyer had already tried his luck from range before David Cotterill showed great skill to curl an effort past a stranded Harper from outside the area.

Paulo Sousa's men could have doubled their advantage, first Ashley Williams heading over from a corner and then Cotterill forcing Harper into a save.

And the Magpies made them pay when they grabbed a share of the spoils late on. Carroll climbing highest at the back post to nod home Leon Best's right wing centre.

It was harsh on Swansea, who move up to 4th, but the Tynesiders remain in charge in the race for automatic promotion.
